Location: Temple Sitting Room
Students will be introduced to singing and playing a harmonium and a dholak. After a few lessons, the student will choose which instrument to focus on for the rest of the semester. All the students will learn to sing the basic musical swar: Sa, Re, Ga, Ma, Pa, Dha, Ni, and they will learn a variety of musical exercises. Correct fingering techniques for playing on a keyboard will be taught. New bhajans and kirtans will be introduced regularly. Beginner students should be able to play several kirtans by the end of the semester. Continuing students will be able to learn many different kirtans and how to perform them.
An instrument to use during the lesson time will be provided. Students will need to have their own musical instrument at home in order to practice.
